Smithsonian Family Day Celebration—Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2008

The Smithsonian welcomed the whole family to a fun-filled day of workshops on origami, letter writing, stamp designing, storybook-making and so much more.
Storyteller Kathy Mathieson, artist Sushmita Mazumdar, origami artist Marcia Mau, and children’s book author and stamp illustrator Kam Mak were all on hand to entertain the crowds.
Sunday, May 4, 2008, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location:

Performances featuring Hawaiian dance group Halau O Na Halia, South Asian “fusion dance team” Chamak, and the Northern Virginia Rondalla, a string orchestra that plays traditional Filipino folk music, wowed the audience, young and old.
This was the fifth and final event in the Smithsonian Heritage Month series “Sharing Stories/ Sharing Heritage,” which explores the ways objects and stories connect us to our heritage and to each other.
