01 Nov / A Good Indian Wife by Anne Cherian [in Bloomsbury Review]

Good Indian WifeNeel is a handsome young doctor arriving at the family home in India to visit his ill grandfather. Back in his chosen home of San Francisco, he’s got a gorgeous white girlfriend and his anesthesiologist career waiting for him. He’s pushed by his family to meet Leila, who at 30 is well past the usual marriageable age and comes without even  a dowry. But circumstances are such that Leila follows Neel home as his ‘good Indian wife,’ and together the unlikely couple must figure out how to build their lives together.
