Curtin and Theresa Larkin, featuring the art, opinions, and unique perspective of Japanese American artist Min\u00e9 Okubo, who first came to worldwide prominence with the publication of <em>Citizen 13660<\/em>, a narrative\/visual diary of her internment camp experience.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"goBoxContainer\"><span class=\"goBox\"><span class=\"bold\">Time:<\/span><br \/>\nMonday, February 19, 2007, 6:30 &#8211; 8:30 p.m.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span class=\"bold\">Location:<\/span><br \/>\nMeyer Auditorium<br \/>\nFreer Gallery of Art<br \/>\n12th Street and Independence Avenue, SW<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span class=\"bold\">Metro:<\/span><br \/>\nSmithsonian or L&#8217;Enfant Plaza<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On stage, Min\u00e9 shared her aesthetic principles and unique art with her audience, as she wove together stories of imprisonment at Tanforan and Topaz during World War II. The performance featured Japanese American actress Cheryl McCarthy and Japanese actress Fumiko Hamada.<\/p>\n<p><em>Min\u00e9<\/em> was presented by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program and the National Museum of American History in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066 by Franklin D. Roosevelt, which led to the suspension of civil rights for 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry.<\/p>\n<p>The program was also co-sponsored by National Japanese American Memorial Foundation, The Artists&#8217; Collective, Japanese American Veterans Association, Japanese American Citizens League, City of Riverside, and Riverside Community College Trustees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Annual Day of Remembrance at the Smithsonian Min\u00e9: A Name for Herself is an original one-woman multimedia performance salon, written by Mary H.
