APA Film presents the 9th Annual DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival<\/a> from September 25 through October 4, 2008 at locations throughout the DC area, including the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer Gallery of Art. The festival will showcase 14 features and over 45 short films.<\/p>\n

On September 27th, the festival presented the following programs at the Freer Gallery of Art, co-sponsored by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program:<\/p>\n

The Siamese Connection<\/em>, a documentary by Josh Gibson about Chang and Eng, the famous conjoined twins of the 19th century who flee their Thai homeland and eventually become the world-renowned P.T. Barnum circus act;<\/p>\n

Long Story Short<\/a><\/em>, the latest documentary from Oscar-nominated director Christine Choy<\/a><\/em> (Who Killed Vincent Chin?<\/em>) profiling Larry and Trudie Long, a popular Chinese American husband-and-wife nightclub act of the ’40s and ’50s;<\/p>\n

and Santa Mesa<\/em><\/a>, a family drama by Ron Morales set in the Philippines starring Jaime Tirelli (Bella<\/em>, Girlfight<\/em>), Melissa Leo, and introducing Jacob Shalov.<\/p>\n
