From left: Tiffany Quebral, Jasmine Fernandez, and Kirsten McMurdo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>Recap by Fall 2011 intern Tiffany Quebral<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Four floors of the <a href=\"http:\/\/nmai.si.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">National Museum of the American Indian<\/a> filled with over 4,000 teachers and hundreds of staff, interns and volunteers made this year\u2019s Smithsonian\u00a0Teachers\u2019 Night a\u00a0success. \u00a0In addition to all the people, the array of freebies spanned from brochures to enormous tote bags.\u00a0 Of course, the complimentary food and drinks didn\u2019t hurt anyone.\u00a0 At our <a href=\"http:\/\/apa.si.edu\">Asian Pacific American Program<\/a> table, our stash of<em> <\/em>bookmarks, brochures, and pens (especially pens) emptied out quickly.\u00a0 Besides getting all the perks at Teachers\u2019 Night, its educational purposes were definitely reached.\u00a0 In addition to educating teachers about the mission of our program, we conducted an informal survey to help with the development of a curriculum for <em><a href=\"http:\/\/homespun.si.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">HomeSpun<\/a> <\/em>in 2013.\u00a0 We received about twenty surveys which I\u2019m sure will be valuable when we start writing the curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>I think we gave teachers a chance to step out of their classroom books and standards and see the array of opportunities and programs that the Smithsonian can provide.\u00a0 It was great to see the genuine respect and enthusiasm teachers have for the Smithsonian.
