While the Smithsonian Institution has outlined a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.si.edu\/bestofbothworlds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">thoughtful agenda<\/a> for this moment, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center views this era from a different perspective: online life has become a compelling thread of the Asian Pacific American experience in a very interesting way.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apa.si.edu\/now\/?attachment_id=37\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-37\" src=\"https:\/\/apa.si.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2014\/05\/msc2.jpg\" alt=\"msc2\" width=\"400\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/apa.si.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2014\/05\/msc2.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/apa.si.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2014\/05\/msc2-800x422.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>Asian Pacific America is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/2011\/01\/06\/asian-americans-and-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">most wired and engaged online community<\/a> in the U.S., participating in vibrant online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/06\/20\/arts\/music\/20legaci.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">popular cultures<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/technology\/youtube-channel-yomyomf-launches-focus-on-asian-american-pop-culture\/2012\/06\/15\/gJQAhEbKfV_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">consequence<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/07\/31\/fashion\/for-asian-stars-many-web-fans.html.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">representation<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/economy\/in-online-video-minorities-find-an-audience\/2012\/04\/20\/gIQAdhliWT_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">influence<\/a> of Asian Pacific American communities. Indeed, Asian Pacific Americans now compose America\u2019s so called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlanticcities.com\/jobs-and-economy\/2012\/06\/race-gender-and-creative-class\/2225\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">creative class<\/a>\u201d\u2013the range of artistic, scientific, technological, educational and professions, including the world of culture, design and entertainment. In short, an online constellation of meaningful American history, art, culture is now tracking through Asian Pacific America, a community that has been historically marginalized in mainstream media and cultural institutions. The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center is committed to the exploration of how online life may serve as a national museum, a pursuit that requires that we experiment with digital platforms of creative cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In this very DIY digital age, these stories capture the spirit of the American dream and the American hustle&#8211;where people are working hard to make a vision become real.<\/p>\n<div class=\"speaker\">\u2013 Sahra Vang Nguyen, director and producer of <i>Maker&#8217;s Lane<\/i><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>SmithsonianAPA presents <a href=\"http:\/\/makers-lane.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Maker&#8217;s Lane<\/em><\/a> \u2013 a web series about Asian Pacific American enterprise and the individuals who carve new ways for understanding the \u201cimmigrant experience\u201d as an experience of innovation. Maker\u2019s Lane is a five-part series produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/oneouncegold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Sahra Vang Nguyen<\/a> \u2013 a promising young visual artist and filmmaker from Boston, and is presented by <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/user\/studioapa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Studio APA<\/a>, the brainchild of filmmaker Steve Nguyen, who has had a hand in supporting a range of community efforts \u2013 from a music video for emerging hip hop artist Awkwafina to Justin Lin&#8217;s box office hit, <i>The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift<\/i>. Together, we are thrilled to exhibit what are not only stories that exist within the industries and neighborhoods in which they are born, but also samples of the versatile ways that Asian Pacific Americans are forming a collective narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, cultural heritage is what we make it. Co-founded by Cory Ng, the shop spent its first year operating out of a garage and taking customers through Craigslist, before moving into its storefront at the heart of Chinatown.
