Kurt Chew-Een Lee during his time as a Marine Corps lieutenant in the Korean War. <\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:16px;color:#666\"><p>&#8220;One of the Marine Corps&#8217; greatest moments&#8230;&#8221; &#8211; <span style=\"font-size:12px;font-weight:bold\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithsonianchannel.com\/site\/sn\/show.do?show=136060\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Washington Post<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As a Chinese American during the time of heavy racial bias in 1950, Lee led 500 American troops through a wintry blizzard to rescue from capture some 8000 Marines who had been surrounded and outnumbered by the North Korean and Chinese military. <\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:16px;color:#666\"><p>&#8220;His bravery at the battle of the Chosin Reservoir &mdash; a Chinese American officer battling Chinese army troops who had surrounded the American forces &mdash; is part of Marine Corps lore.&#8221; &#8211; <span style=\"font-size:12px;font-weight:bold\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/news\/tv\/la-et-chosin-20100531,0,3011316.story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the LA Times<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His accomplishments as a Marine earned him <a href=\"http:\/\/www.history.navy.mil\/medals\/navcross.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the Navy Cross<\/a>, the highest medal award by the U.S. Navy and second only to the Medal of Honor.
