Renowned jazz-fusion band Hiroshima kicked off Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with two back-to-back events.<\/p>\n
Time:<\/span> First up was the documentary, Cruisin’ J-Town<\/em>, that traces the roots of Asian American popular music, focusing on the jazz-fusion band Hiroshima which formed in Los Angeles in 1970s. Hiroshima members Dan Kuramoto and June Okida Kuramoto took part in a discussion after the screening.<\/p>\n The film was followed by an outdoor concert on the Hirshhorn Plaza. The unique sound of Hiroshima is a combination of funky western rhythms and traditional Japanese elements—featuring booming taiko drumming and graceful koto playing.
