A Program in Recognition of the 40th Anniversary
of the Ethnic Studies Movement

Adopting a lively “talk show” format moderated by Dr. Richard Kurin, Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture, this program features the perspectives of Smithsonian colleagues who were instrumental in bringing culturally diverse scholarship to the Smithsonian.

The program will be introduced by Dr. G. Wayne Clough, Secretary of the Smithsonian, and will feature a brief overview of the Ethnic Studies movement by Dr. Juanita Tamayo Lott, who was instrumental in its formation.

    Ethnic studies are important. Thank you for defending them. The opening of the culture is a bridge to the other.
