JOB SUMMARY:

This position is located in the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American (APA) Program in its Washington, DC office. The employee provides support in the production of public and digital media programs, educational materials for all Asian Pacific American activities at the Smithsonian.

DUTIES

* Produces Asian Pacific American (APA) Program content for distribution across digital media technologies and platforms.
* Serves as Web Designer/Developer for the APA Program focusing on history, art and culture.
* Maintains and preserves earlier APA multimedia content; maintains and updates new multimedia content to keep material current.
* Provides input on multimedia strategies for APA Program outreach, exhibitions and educational activities; measures the analytics of multimedia performance.
* Documents APA Program initiatives and events with new media technologies (e.g. digital cameras) and software packages (e.g. Dreamweaver).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Experience:

You must have one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-5 level that is close or similar to the work of this job. The experience includes creating, coordinating, developing and designing Asian Pacific American history, art and culture content for distribution across a range of multimedia technologies and platforms.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Or Education:

One full year of graduate level education related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.

Or a Combination:

Education and experience may be combined to meet the basic qualifications; for example, a half year of experience and a half year of education in the field may be qualifying.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:

1. Knowledge of Asian Pacific American (APA) communities, history, art and culture with an emphasis on South Asian American (India) communities, history and culture. Factor #1 is the Selective Factor. Applicants must meet this factor to continue to receive further consideration.
2. Ability to photograph, film and write about events and APA experiences for new media distribution including digitizing old media formats.
3. Ability to create a multimedia strategy for a museum, community or education organization and measure the analytics of multimedia performance.
4. Knowledge of multimedia tools used for multimedia production.
