Come celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at the Smithsonian and experience some of the latest dance works of Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. Hailed by The Washington Post as “the area’s leading dance artist,” Dana Tai Soon Burgess presents Chino Latino, infused with his American Southwest Latino upbringing, and Hyphen, integrating the groundbreaking works of video artist Nam June Paik. He also premieres his latest work-in-progress, Island, exploring the APA experience through the Angel Island Immigration Station.

Hailed by The Washington Post as “the area’s leading dance artist,” Dana Tai Soon Burgess presents Chino Latino, infused with his American Southwest Latino upbringing, and Hyphen, integrating the groundbreaking works of video artist Nam June Paik. He also premieres his latest work-in-progress, Island, exploring the APA experience through the Angel Island Immigration Station.

Following the performance, Burgess and his dancers will explore Asian Pacific American cultural identity through dance in an open discussion with Ken Hakuta, nephew of artist Nam June Paik. The audience is invited to participate.

This event is co-sponsored by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program, the Smithsonian Center for Museum Studies, and the Smithsonian Heritage Month Steering Committee.
