Hello!

Welcome to Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center's space for Learning Together— if you are an educator, a student, or simply interested in our education initiatives, this is the space for you! Check in regularly to stay updated on our education programs, resources and announcements.

To celebrate the site launch, we invite you to download our Culture Lab Playbook, an activity book that brings you into our Culture Lab process. We hope it inspires you to create community-based art!

We want students to dream with us by applying to our internship program at our Washington, DC office. We’d love to see you bring your talents and skills to our ongoing community-centered efforts!

The Sandbox

In 2018 the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and National Veterans Network asked teachers for their help in developing a new set of activities and lessons (to be released by Summer 2019) related to an online exhibition about the Nisei Soldier Congressional Gold Medal.

Four teachers from Washington, DC, Virginia and California answered our call to explore ways to teach about Nisei soldiers and contemporary dialogue on citizenship for elementary and middle school students. By digging in to these complex connections and histories, we formed The Sandbox, our pilot teacher institute. Check back for updates on our Sandbox Teachers and how they’re using these activities with their students!

Meet The Learning Together Ambassadors!

We are excited to introduce you to our Learning Together ambassadors, Zara, Nathan, Minh and Jay! Over the next few months, they will guide you through our education updates, announcements, and resources. They’ll also help us learn about inspirational figures in Asian American, Pacific Islander and Desi communities.

We hope you join us on this exciting journey, as we learn about each other— together!

In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about our education initiatives or internship opportunities, please email us at APAC@si.edu
