The rebellious pair abandon not only the school but Chicago, headed to Comfort Notch, New Hampshire, where Kat\u2019s estranged mother recently died. Kat spent her first nine years in Comfort Notch, \u201cHome of America\u2019s Prettiest Autumn,\u201d until her mother inexplicably threw her out 25 years ago.<\/p>\n

After an initially rough \u00adadjustment \u2013 Kat\u2019s not the trusting type \u2013 kindness seems to be the town motto. They\u2019ve been gifted a car, they inherit a house, and Sybil is happy.
