If\u00a0you&#8217;re wondering how they&#8217;re\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bookdragon.si.edu\/2010\/06\/17\/ling-ting-not-exactly-the-same-by-grace-lin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Not Exactly the Same<\/em><\/a>, you&#8217;ll have to go back to their treasure-filled 2010 debut. If you&#8217;re curious about their no-they-are-not-mismatched shoes, or their jovial barber-buddy who joins them even before their first adventure, check out their natal celebrations in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apa.si.edu\/bookdragon\/ling-ting-share-a-birthday-by-grace-lin\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Ling &amp; Ting Share a Birthday<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracelin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Grace Lin<\/a>\u2019s third twinly installation is another toothsome romp.\u00a0She explains in her &#8220;Artist&#8217;s Note,&#8221; that &#8220;the color palette &#8230; was inspired by the bright blue summer sky and the late-ripening strawberries of my first garden.&#8221; The girls&#8217;\u00a0opening adventure here just happens to involve said garden, although why grow the fruit when you might go straight for perfectly frosted, berry-topped cupcakes instead? Ting insists, Ling watches knowingly, Ting perseveres: no cupcakes? no problem! &#8220;&#8216;Beans are seeds,'&#8221; as Ling agrees\u00a0\u2013\u00a0even of\u00a0the jelly variety, right?<\/p>\n<p>Back in the house, Ting attempts\u00a0to imbue\u00a0additional luck in\u00a0all her toys in &#8220;Lucky Red Paint.&#8221; Their next event takes them\u00a0&#8220;On the Swings&#8221; over trees, buildings, even far-out space,\u00a0then to an intrepid search for &#8220;Apples&#8221; complete with monkeys, penguins, and worms, oh my! They practice &#8220;Reading Minds&#8221; as well as reading books, and are inspired to\u00a0write their own &#8220;Not a Silly Story&#8221; in which\u00a0they cleverly, creatively, manage to include all their many adventures &#8230; and, of course, cupcakes and jelly beans.<\/p>\n<p>Lin&#8217;s\u00a0self-proclaimed &#8220;very, very silly&#8221; girlies are also very,\u00a0<em>very<\/em>\u00a0self-reliantly inventive. They require no plugs, no cords,\u00a0<em>no screens<\/em> to produce\u00a0their own out-of-this-world merriment. They feed their originality with laughter,\u00a0they fuel their imagination with stories,\u00a0they toast their\u00a0exploits\u00a0with cupcakes. All in a day of play.
