Already lauded and awarded in Cho&#8217;s native Australia, his\u00a0Stateside arrival\u00a0is sure to elicit gasps, guffaws, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to half a century of pop culture icons\u00a0\u2013 before you ask &#8216;how can pop culture be that old?&#8217;\u00a0allow me to\u00a0point out\u00a0that &#8216;the hills came\u00a0alive&#8217; 49 years ago\u00a0on\u00a0a screen near you back in 1965. That said, Cho&#8217;s\u00a0Captain Von Trapp isn&#8217;t\u00a0who you might\u00a0expect. In fact,\u00a0morphing proves\u00a0to be the occupational hazard of choice throughout.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Suitmation&#8221; has a different identity available to anyone and everyone, from Godzilla to Olivia Newton-John,\u00a0while two siblings\u00a0admit\u00a0in &#8220;Dinner with My Brother&#8221; they might choose &#8220;Marlon Brando&#8221; and &#8220;Indiana Jones&#8221; over their own Chinese monikers, given the chance. &#8220;Dinner with\u00a0Auntie Ling and Uncle Wang&#8221; becomes a computer adventure, and &#8220;Learning English&#8221; means hiring Bruce Willis to talk instead. Inner rage goes out of control in &#8220;Today on Dr. Phil,&#8221; while &#8220;The Bodyguard&#8221; chivalrously deals with a bionic stalker to save Whitney Houston. Mother and son get transformative makeovers in &#8220;I, Robot,&#8221; and\u00a0the girlfriend dismisses a <em>Muppets<\/em> adventure in &#8220;Pinocchio.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As the stories unfold in surreal glimpses, a blurred\u00a0outline of the unnamed narrator emerges: a Chinese Australian young man with extended relatives on multiple continents, including parents and a brother Hank, who has a sometime girlfriend Tara among many, many lovers, who is driven by a fertile imagination without boundaries \u2013 not to mention quite the multi-platform command of TV, film, music, and games. In his many morphing guises, Cho\u00a0explores a\u00a0myriad of unexpected identities and impossible situations.
