30 Apr / Pikachu’s Global Adventure: The Rise and Fall of Pokémon edited by Joseph Tobin [in AsianWeek]
With one of the best covers I’ve ever seen on an academic text, this diverse collection of essays explores the global phenomenon that was Pokémon (from “pocket monster,” in case you were ever wondering). But more than being another case study of a wildly popular product that lost its cool-factor too quickly, Tobin’s collection also takes a look at the broader popular culture market and the power of children’s consumption on a global scale.
