17 Oct / My Name is Yoon by Helen Recorvits, illustrated by Gabi Swiatkowska [in AsianWeek]
A playfully clever, subversive story with fabulously whimsical pictures about a little Korean girl who doesn’t like her name spelled out in English letters: “Lines. Circles. Each standing alone,” she tells her sweetly encouraging father, who tells her that America is her new home and English the language she must learn and use. But Yoon’s name “looks happy in Korean,” she insists. Indeed, Yoon doesn’t mean “shining wisdom” for nothing!
