02 Mar / Golden Gate: A Novel in Verse by Vikram Seth [in What Do I Read Next? Multicultural Literature]

Golden GateA novel written entirely in verse, about the machinations of love in the modern age. John’s lonely, so Jan secretly runs a personal ad on his behalf. John finds Liz. Recently divorced Phil ends up with Liz’s younger brother Ed. But nothing is as it seems with these five friends.

Even the acknowledgments, dedication, and table of contents are in verse!! A remarkable, unique literary feat. Originally, the work was rejected by most poetry publishers, but eventually found an editor at Random House who recognized its priceless merit and published it to great acclaim, quickly making Seth a literary sensation.
