05 May / Fresh Off the Boat by Melissa de la Cruz [in AsianWeek]

Fresh Off the BoatVicenza, 14, is F.O.P. – fresh off the plane – from the Philippines where she was undoubtedly the belle of ball. Now a financially challenged immigrant in San Francisco who’s also a scholarship student at the toniest private girls’ school in the city, Vicenza must tread a fine line between being a dutiful daughter at home and trying desperately not to be a total social misfit at school, not to mention the not-so-truthful email exchange she has to keep up with her best friend at home. A delightfully delicious read.
