Clara Breed, a children’s librarian at the San Diego Public Library, proved to be a staunch supporter and enduring friend to a group of young Japanese American students who were forced to leave their homes and treated as enemies in their homeland. Through a legacy of letters, gifts, and books, Miss Breed let her “children” know that she was always on their side, no matter the unjust mistakes of the American government.
