27 Aug / Bobby vs. Girls (Accidentally) by Lisa Yee, illustrated by Dan Santat

Bobby vs. GirlsJust in time for back-to-school, Lisa Yee (of the fabulous Millicent/Stanford/Emily trilogy) debuts her latest middle grade novel about two best friends who suddenly find each other on opposing sides … of, well … everything.

Bobby Ellis-Chan and Holly Harper have been best buddies since preschool, but now that they’re in fourth grade, being friends with someone of the opposite gender is just not cool at all. Eee-yew. Bobby just can’t understand why Holly’s suddenly straightened her once unruly but perfectly wonderful hair, wears nail polish, and hangs out with scary Jillian. Now that she doesn’t seem to have much time for him, Bobby finds solace with his new pet fish, Rover – whom Holly won for him at a local fair. When they find themselves running against each other for student council rep, the competition really heats up.

Yee writes yet another pitch-perfect tale about the prickly relationships between boys and girls as they painstakingly untangle the often overwhelming challenges of having to grow up.

P.S. Yippeee: Bobby’s entertaining adventures continue with Bobby the Brave (Sometimes).

Sounds like an interesting plot. I would say she beats him up and plays dirty politics since girls can really be mean lol.
