| September:
Children's books |

|

 |
| Terry
Hong, project director of the Korean American Centennial Commemoration
discusses young adult literature during the first half of the program,
with authors An Na (seated in middle, A Step From Heaven)
and Linda Sue Park (right, 2002 Newbery Award-winner for A Single
Shard). Then we took a short break and afterwards, moved on to
the children’s book writers. |

Sisters
Frances Park (left) and Ginger Park read from their book, Freedom
Trip, based on their mother’s courageous flight from North
Korea to South Korea during the Korean War. |

| Frances
Park (left), Ginger Park (middle) and author/illustrator Yangsook
Choi (right) field questions from a very interested audience. And
we even had our youngest audience members participate! |
|
An
Na and Linda Sue Park sign furiously to try and personalize the many
books that flew out the door before and after the event. Even the
Smithsonian Store representative was pleasantly shocked at the large
number of book sales! Obviously, our authors are in great demand! |

| Oh,
a bevy of beauties indeed: (from left to right) Frances Park, Yangsook
Choi, Ginger Park, Linda Sue Park (no relation, by the way, to the
Park sisters – that we know of, anyway …) and An Na. |
|
Oh,
the lucky Boss-man, Franklin Odo, Director of the Smithsonian Asian
Pacific American Program, is very happily surrounded by his entourage:
(from let to right) Terry Hong, Frances Park, Yangsook Choi, Ginger
Park, Linda Sue Park, An Na, the Boss, program specialist Gina Inocencio
and the most adorable of all, little Sagada. |
