Unit 1, Activity B: Korean Americans in the media today

Goal: to identify and discuss the lives of contemporary Americans of Korean descent who are regularly covered in the media.

Today, Korean Americans are involved in every sector of American life. Some are instantly recognizable. Some are more behind-the-scenes.

In addition to the famous faces, encourage students to search out Korean Americans that are a part of their every day lives, from relatives to neighbors, even fellow students. Ask students to either write a short report about the life of a contemporary Korean American, or to interview a Korean American person face-to-face.

Discuss how the Korean American experience today might be different from the experiences of the first immigrants who arrived over a hundred years ago.
